Here's what Chetan discovered: his greatest joy came not just from performing, but from sharing what he'd learned. When he met his wife Melissa at the Cleveland Institute of Music (they both studied with the renowned Antonio Pompa-Baldi), they dreamed of creating something special in the teaching world.
In 2016, they took that leap and co-founded the San Diego Piano Academy. What started as a small studio has grown into one of California's premier piano institutions, serving nearly 200 students with 12 top-flight instructors. During this journey, Chetan developed his revolutionary SMART practice methodology – a systematic approach that helps students progress 3-4 times faster than traditional methods.

Mr. Tierra accepts new students by audition only, maintaining a limited studio focused on those who demonstrate exceptional commitment to musical excellence. His selective approach ensures that each student receives the intensive, individualized attention necessary for transformational results. His studio is designed primarily for students aged 12 and above who are ready for professional-level instruction, though he occasionally teaches gifted younger students who demonstrate readiness for this level of training.
