Chetan began playing the piano immediately after birth and later his father would tie him to his lap, point to the piano keys, and Chetan would play. His father was his first teacher and worked with him daily developing his talents. At the age of 8 Chetan began more traditional lessons. He gives much credit to his former teachers Hans Boepple, who he worked with in high school and Antonio Pompa-Baldi at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He spent the last decade performing all over the world, and while he still performs regularly, his attention is drawn to the undeniable potential of Skyterra. The band was recently nominated by the San Diego Music Awards for 2017 Best New Artist.
Besides being an incredible performing artist, Chetan also has a passion to share what he’s learned about piano with others. This year he will be launching a series of online courses covering a variety of different topics to help all pianists reach their full potential as well as share some of his secrets to true success. Chetan also co-founded The San Diego Piano Academy with his wife and pianist, Melissa Evans Tierra. Together they have created the premier in-home piano lesson service in San Diego, CA featuring students of all ages from beginners to highly advanced students. "With Mr. Tierra's focused artistry, there was no noise, simply music. He is as they say, the real deal."
-New York Concert Review
"Over my 35 years as director of the Distinguished Artists Series, I have heard hundreds of really great pianists. Occasionally one appears with a voice that speaks directly to the heart in a flawless manner. Such was the case with his performance. With the exception of maybe a Garrick Ohlsson or a Yuja Wang, I think he's right up there with the best of them."
-John Orlando, Distinguished Artists Series
"The best, most important quality of Chetan's playing is one that cannot be taught. He has an innate ability to communicate with the audience, involving listeners, taking them on a journey, and never allowing their attention to wander. Chetan can bring listeners to the edge of their seats, or soothe them with his beautiful soft touch."
-Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Concert Pianist
